Why GROUP lessons for your child? What are the advantages of GROUP lessons compared to individual lessons?
These are some of the typical questions that parents usually consider when they decide to send their child to music lessons.
As parents, we want to cultivate their musical interest and help them develop skills to further their musical education. We also want them to enjoy making music and be able to perform in social events or in family gatherings.
Learning music helps children 1. to develop physical and cultivate social skills 2. to refine discipline and patience 3. to boost self esteem 4. to be exposed to different cultures
Now, those above reasons sound really good and attractive to a parent interested to send his/her child to music lessons, isn’t it? However, let’s come back to our original question. Why group lessons as opposed to private individual ones then?
As we all know, learning to play the piano is a solitary sport. The child learns to sing and play alone with the teacher. That might be fun for the older children. But, how about those exuberant and lively younger kids? In a group setting, these young kids from age 4 to 7 years old will be able to interact with each other as they learn.
Social interaction enhances cognitive developments. Develops critical listening and problem solving skills. Challenges students to higher levels of preparation and commitment.
Each student will learn from their peers and teacher. When students learn alongside their peers, they are more motivated to practice and quickly develop independence and confidence.
Group lessons provides a good format for teaching functional musicianship skills. Develops strong rhythmic sense. Encourages musical playing.
Provides a motivational environment in which creative games and exercise are used to teach and drill concepts.
Facilitates the study of ensemble repertoire, like - Duets - Group playing - Piano ensembles - Battles
